Unfinished or lightly finished wood needs less intervention than many people expect. A consistent routine of wiping, drying, and occasional oiling is usually enough.
After everyday use
Remove crumbs and dust with a dry cloth. For marks, use a cloth dampened with clean water, then dry the surface promptly. Avoid leaving a wet cup, vase, or cloth in one place for long periods.
When the surface looks dry
A pale or rough-looking surface can be refreshed with a small amount of food-safe oil. Clean the object first and let it dry fully. Apply a thin layer with a soft lint-free cloth, working with the grain.
Let use become visible
Wood changes through light, air, and touch. These changes show where and how it has been used. With simple care, a tray or box can be repaired, refinished, and kept in use for a long time.
